Bear, Elliott and Quinn

Bear is beautiful blue Shar-Pei.  He is blind but you wouldn’t notice – what you would notice is the sense of calmness and “wise-beyond-his years” feeling you get just by being next to him.  And talk about photogenic!

Quinn is a soulful, Bluetick Coonhound.  She was rescued after spending part of her life surviving on her own in the woods.

Then, there is the uber-cute Elliot.  He is 35 pounds of mixed terrier –  mixed with joy, that is.

They were quite an unexpected group to photograph. They had such different personalities, and the longer I was there, them more they’d open up and let me see it.  As I left, I imagined how much fun the conversation would be around the dinner table if they could all talk.

Equine Impressions . . .

I went out to a barn this weekend and created some images for myself.  I am adding equine (horse) photography to my portfolio and spent a few hours at a site visit in preparation for a future shoot.  My goal with these images was to capture the experience I had at the barn.  I saw such interesting light and texture – and movement and stillness – and I wanted to convey that in these images.

If you’d like to see more images from the barn, you can click on this link for a slideshow.

Below are images of the horses as they are getting washed off after their exercise.  Thought I’d mention that after my brother called to ask if I had photographed the horses relieving themselves. 🙂hosing down horse hooveshorse trotting around ring

Photographing the Elusive Cat

Now, enough about dogs.  Here’s to a wonderful article about photographing cats.  It’s written by Susan McCullough – an award-winning writer about various animal-related topics.  Click here for the article and click here to go to Susan’s website.  We had the privilege of photographing Susan and her dog a few years ago and some of our pictures are featured on her website.

Beau – The Outrageously Gorgeous Pekingese

This is Beau, an incredible Pekingese.  You really have to see him in person to appreciate how unique he is – I’ve never seen a dog like him.  He had just been groomed and looked amazing.  He wasn’t full of himself, either.  He worked hard during the session and gave us tons of personality.  I’m not even sure these pictures do him justice – but here goes:beau on red chairbeau with hair around him

Beau’s owner orderd a wall portrait of the image on the right (below).  He looks so regal to me here.  Here’s what she said when she received it:

“I just can’t tell you how much I love the results of your shoot with Beau. It’s hard to be able to see him as he looks in the photos since I’m so close to him. The photos give me the chance to stare at him all I want forever.”

This is one of the images from the series we called “Wuthering Heights”.beau with wind blowing

Seeing him run was great!  You couldn’t really see his feet – just waves of beautiful hair floating over him.beau running in grass
