Fun Day at the Shelter (Animal Welfare League of Arlington)

The dogs were especially animated today so I wanted to share a few of the images and outtakes.  All of these dogs are currently (as of 8/28/09) up for adoption from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Four wonderful dogs – Keebler, Poppy, Sassy and Ninja

Here’s how it started:  “I’m interested in having some portraits done of my 4 little geriatric dogs.  . . . I would like to have them all together in one portrait – one is blind (and stubborn), one is a diva, the other two might respond a little better to orders but none of them is really “trained.” Am I crazy?? I’d just like to capture them all together since they’re getting older and they’re such a huge part of my life.”

And, here’s how it ended:four little dogs on deck

All four of these dogs were adopted.  Ninja and Sassy came from the Best DAWG rescue in Bethesda, MD. Poppy came from the Animal Welfare Society of Howard County and was blind when he was adopted.  They thought he’d live the rest of his life there until his adopter saw him and knew he had to join her family.  Keebler was adopted from the Orange County Animal Shelter in Chapel Hill, NC.  They couldn’t be more loved.four dog facesfour dogs standing on deck

I’ll be back there in the next couple of weeks to focus on their other dog, Larry.  Larry is a service dog from and an incredible companion to his owner.  It is a truly special relationship that has changed both of their lives.  I’m honored to be working with them.   Here’s a sneak peak.Lab at window

Morgan – The Model

This is the second part of our session with Morgan, the beautiful yellow lab.  Because of the heat, we worked in the very early morning, and it turned out to be one of those very humid, foggy mornings.

Someone suggested I try this in black and white, and when I did, I liked it!  It almost makes the sun look like the moon.
